Just as the golden hair of fairies is a treasure to the waters of the Danube, the mills along the Danube River are also treasures for the inhabitants of Csallóköz.
The starting cities will be Somorja, Dunaszerdahely, and Nagymegyer, and our first destination will be the town of Gúta. The town is situated at the confluence of the Váh and Little Danube rivers. Here, our attention will be focused on the Ship Mill located on the oxbow of the Danube. We won’t miss Europe’s longest wooden river bridge either.
Next, we will travel to the village of Dunatőkés, and after visiting the water mill, our journey will lead us to Szigeti Tanya. The locals will kindly introduce us to rural life, living with domestic animals. We will draw water from a traditional well and taste the traditional homemade specialties prepared by our host – garlic langalló with homemade goat cheese, complemented by traditional meat products.
Our wandering continues, and we arrive at Tallós. In the beautiful surroundings of the forest, we find the local waterwheel mill. The water mill is well-preserved, and visitors can admire its almost original appearance along with fully functional milling equipment.
Jókai Mill will be the final stop on our mill-to-mill journey. Refreshments can be enjoyed in its vicinity, and there is a small open-air museum nearby showcasing the agricultural past of the village.
A delightful conclusion to our journey awaits at the Bartal family winery in Somorja, where besides excellent domestic wines, the gastronomic offerings provide exceptional culinary experiences.
I warmly welcome everyone, in the hope of creating unforgettable memories.

The boat mill in Kolárovo in the south-west of Slovakia is the last existing specimen of the floating mill and the only boat mill in Slovakia. The mill houses the Boat Miller’s Museum.
The mill stands next to the dead arm of the river Dunaj. It floats on two parallel anchored boats. It is the reconstructed version of the boat mill made by the company Slovenské lodenice in Komárno in 1982 following the design of the former boat mill that existed in Radvaň nad Dunajom, only boats it floats on are bigger than the original ones.
Construction of the mill is firm enough to endure the impact of even 100-year water. It is connected with the bank by 86 m long bridge, which is considered the longest wooden bridge in Europe. The mill is situated on the popular water route that runs down the river Malý Dunaj. It cannot be accessed via water.

Miller János Maticza built it in 1893. Today is the technical monument, which demonstrates the past milling activities in southern Slovakia.
The structure of the mill with shingle rood and a large driving wheel using the bottom water stands of pillars made of locust wood. The mill is still functional. It contains its original interior furniture and original milling utensils. It is accessible via a little footbridge from the riverbank.
The mill stands next to the Klátovské rameno, the arm of the river Malý Dunaj – -western Slovakia is one of few preserved water mills in Slovakia with the bottom mill race.
The mill is able to operate but the low water table in the arm does not allow it. In difference from other mills on the Danube it has a bricked grinding plant while the wheel and the drive are in a wooden shelter.
